The archeological site of El Ceibal, located 12 kilometers from Sayaxché on the banks of Río de la passion, takes its name from the big ceiba trees (Yaxché in Mayan language), sacred trees growing all over the area.is one of the most spectacular Mayan sites, especially for its topography and because of the deep crevice of tectonic origin which separates the hill into two parts where the ruins are located. Dos Pilas is a site located inside the rainforest of the vast valley of Petén.
ItineraryDay 1: After breakfast we leave from Flores Island to Sayaxché, where we take a boat to the site "El Ceibal". Here we take a tour of El Ceibal and afterwards have lunch. In the afternoon we again take the boat back to Sayaxché to go to Aguateca, our camping spot. Day 2: After breakfast we take a boat to "Paso Caribe" where we prepare for the hike to Dos Pilas site. This trek is 12 kilometers which takes approximately three hours. We have a guided tour of the site and lunch before hiking back to "Paso Caribe" to go back by boat to Aguateca site, where we have dinner and sleep. Day 3: After breakfast, we take a tour of Aguateca site. Afterwards we go back by boat to Sayaxché where we have lunch. Then we go back to Flores Island to rest and relax. Older news items:
