Department, 17 kilometers from the border

Tajumulco is the highest volcano in all
Central America. It has two peaks. The

a crater 50m (160 ft) in diameter. The
lower peak has an elevation of 4,100m
(13,451 ft). The hike to the top is relatively
easy.
We first go to the town San Marcos and
then to a place called “crucero Tajumulco”
then we start our hike.
Volcano Tajumulco in two days:

Itinerary.
Day 1:
8:00 AM Breakfast in the Ícaro Tours office.
8:30 AM Leave for San Marcos and Tuicha.
Here we start walking through rocky trails,
among vegetation and flocks of sheep until
we get a wooded area. This is the land
of the “Mam” the indigenous group which
lives in this region. At this point the
trail becomes a bit steep and we hike
for roughly and hour until we arrive to
a flat land and stop for a 45 minute lunch
break. We continue hiking through varied
landscapes, alongside a view of the Pacific
Ocean, the mountains of “Los Cuchumatanes”
and the villages located in the lands
below.
By 6:00 PM we arrive to our campsite,
where we eat dinner and rest for the morning.
It is a tradition of Ícaro Tours to prepare
traditional Guatemalan hot chocolate to
relax and warm the group.

4:45 AM wake up.
5:00 AM leave for the summit to see the
sunrise.
