Bike trip to Totonicapán & Gumarcaj Ruins

The bike trips in all the Totonicapán areas are wonderful due to its wealth in woods. The mountains, as in most of the highlands in Guatemala, are impressive. The Ruins of Gumarcaj, an archeological site in the Quiché department, is a city situated on a hilltop surrounded by ravines, where we receive a small talk by our guide about history. This trip is a good combination between exercise, nature and Guatemalan culture.

Bike trip to Xela &Fuentes Georginas

Are thermo sources that eminate from the Zunil volcano and which flow into the place known today as FUENTES GEORGINAS.

These thermo sources were discovered by two laborers from Zunil in the year 1902 and they changed it into communal bath, where people who lived around there or nearby the place of the therme baths took a bath when they considered it necessary.

Following the year 1902, after having been discovered by the Municipality of Zunil, they maintained its upkeep for years afterward. But, as the municipalities at that time depended on their own resources, they could not maintain the upkeep of thermo sources, in as much as it did not represent a source of income, to them.

The eyes on the road to the sources is impressive. This is one of the most accessible bike trips. We left Xela at pick-up to the hill of Almolonga because the first mile is very steep.

In this first hill we go down to Zunil, then up a hill relatively inclined approximately 9 miles. The entire trip to Fountains Georginas takes 1 to 3 hours depending on the physical condition of the passengers.

Since we view from Zunil to the sources is very beautiful we make some stops to take pictures.

When travelers want to make some stops to rest is also possible.

Then we spent about 2 or 3 hours in the hot springs, bike back to Zunil and finally back to Xela by bus because the Zunil to Xela road is very steep.

Bike Tours to Los Vahos

Los Vahos are natural saunas, located near the volcano "Cerro Quemado". To get there, first going through the road to Almolonga, after about a kilometer there is an intersection where we take a path which goes to "the vapors". From the top the last hill is a very good view of Xela and the surrounding mountains. After this good exercise we take a healthy sauna and then a cold shower.
