These thermo sources were discovered by two laborers from Zunil in the year 1902 and they changed it into communal bath, where people who lived around there or nearby the place of the therme baths took a bath when they considered it necessary. Following the year 1902, after having been discovered by the Municipality of Zunil, they maintained its upkeep for years afterward. But, as the municipalities at that time depended on their own resources, they could not maintain the upkeep of thermo sources, in as much as it did not represent a source of income, to them. http://www.lasfuentesgeorginas.com/history.htm
The Fuentes Georginas are the most famous hotsprings in Guatemala. Nestled in cloud forest half way up Volcan Zunil, only 40 minutes from Xela, the Fuentes have thermal pools of different temperatures which make for an idyllic place to soak and re-lax. There is a short hiking trial to explore the area, as well as changing rooms, a restaurant, and lockers. There are rustic bunga-lows for rent as well.
